This was one of the first soaps I made that included native New Zealand ingredients. Although the only essential oil included is Manuka, I have refrained from adding any additional scents as it doesn’t seem necessary for such a special soap. It is lightly scented and the Manuka essential oil is known for being a powerful antimicrobial, soothing inflammation and aiding in healing the skin. The Manuka oil we have used comes from the East Cape of New Zealand (higher levels of the antimicrobial triketone compounds are found there).
Kawakawa is native to NZ and is known to have wonderful healing qualities, including both anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. You can find it in forest areas, look out for their unique heart shaped leaves. The more holes in the leaves, the better!
